Would the Burton Gtwin be a good board?
I am thinking of getting the troop, but my friend is asking, would the Burton "Gtwin" be a good board for him? he is a beginner and is willing to do more work on the halfpipe and the park, he just started snowboarding and he is picking up pretty quickly..
I answered a question yesterday (perhaps yours?) about the Stigma and I suggested the Troop as a better first board. I said you shouldn't buy a beginner board as you wouldn't be a beginner for very long. Well, you can go too far the other way and get a board that is perhaps too advanced for a beginner snowboarder. This is an example of that.
The Gtwin is a great board but it is an expert level park board which will offer tech, support and performance that a beginner may not appreciate. In fact, it may be a bit more difficult to ride as your friend perfects his skills. It isn't necessarily a bad choice for a beginner but I usually advise folks to get something a little easier to ride and a little more versatile as their first board so, as they learn, they have a better platform to help them decide which board they want when it comes time to choose a better board.
Also, the Gtwin is a women's specific board. While this doesn't necessarily prohibit your friend from getting this board, it will offer some features that he won't need (and probably wouldn't want) like a narrower waist width, a narrower stance option and an overall softer flex.
Burton makes a unisex (there are no men's specific boards) Twin that may suit him better. Also, the Dominant may be a better first park board or the Air a better first all mountain freestyle board. These are just my suggestions from Burton (which I am most familiar with) there are tons of great boards out there.
